"We need to regain public education" is the phrase of consensus among the presidents of the federations grouped in the Confederation of students from Chile, CONFECH when characterizing mobilization to be held nationwide on 12 May. Is that students have long been denouncing a deep crisis in the system, a reality that is evident in the progressive self-financing of state universities, the poor regulation of private institutions, a poor quality and progressive absolute absence or distortion of the vocation public institutions of privatization.
addition to this, little access to the most vulnerable sectors, excessive borrowing by students, the weakening of the role of the state and its institutions, the generation of profit by many institutions private and explicitly prohibits the participation of the university community in the development of institutions.
The past weekend was held in Iquique CONFECH last session, student leaders there determined to appeal to all stakeholders in education, students of higher education, secondary workers, teachers, bodies, researchers and the entire citizenry to participate in the strike and national mobilization for public recovery.
